About Tralee

Welcome to Tralee.

Tralee or in Gaelic Trá Lí is the capital town of County Kerry . The town takes its name from the River Lee which flows into Tralee Bay.

Tralee is nestled in the shelter of the Slieve Mish Mountains and on the edge of Tralee Bay, a splendid and most scenic location.  Tralee is located on the Wild Atlantic Way and is a gateway town to the spectacular Dingle Peninsula, Dingle Town and Slea Head.

Today Tralee is a lively town with a mix of locals going about their daily business and visitors enjoying the range of attractions, local shops, local pubs and vast choice of places to dine.

Tralee has an 800 year history , having emerged in the 12th Century as a fortified town. Tralee was the stronghold and the seat of the Earls of Desmond. Then in the 13th Century the town of Tralee was founded by the Anglo Normans.

The Tralee you see today began to take shape in the 19th Century when streets such as Denny Street and Day Place emerged. Along the guided walking tour you will see examples of Tralee’s 19th Century architecture.

On the Tralee Walks Guided Walking Tour you can step back in time and listen to stories about Tralee’s past and present.  Your Guide will captivate you with folklore and legends as well as a few stories about the locals we meet on our stroll around Tralee.
